On the highest mountain in the Kamloops area, Mt. Chuwhels is forested with lodgepole pine and Englemann spruce. The pattern of trees; thick and thin, tall and short, stand across this scene like notes on a musical score.
The summit is 6200 feet or so above sea level and a distinct change in the air is really noticeable. The fragrance comes from the exhalation of trees, an aroma almost intoxicating to me and its memory remained present in my mind while I painted this piece.
That’s Greenstone Mtn. in the background as seen from the east summit of Mt. Chuwhels.
